Formic Acid Gel 60% 500 g

Formic Acid Gel 60% 500 g is a colorless gel for external use that contains formic acid.

Composition

Contains 70 g of formic acid (HCOOH) per 100 g of product.

The formic acid in the gel is used as a technical agent for disinfecting hives, frames, beekeeping equipment, and rooms where honeycombs are stored. It can also be used to remove external parasites such as the Wax Moth and Varroa mites. Formic acid gel is typically used in spring and autumn, but also in summer, at an outside temperature between 15 and 28°C, depending on the application.

How to Use

The quantity and number of applications vary depending on the purpose:

1. For equipment disinfection: If formic acid is used to disinfect inventory, apply it using a cloth or paper towel.
2. For Wax Moth removal: Place the Formic Acid GEL in a wide-mouthed container within the room or cabinet where the honeycombs are stored. As the acid evaporates, the beekeeper should refill the containers.
3. For Varroa mite treatment: According to studies, it is necessary to evaporate approximately 2.5 ml of 60% liquid formic acid for each frame covered with bees over a two-day period. When formic acid is in its liquid state, the 2.5 ml needed to eliminate Varroa mites evaporates much faster than the gel form, leading to greater losses due to the bees' intense ventilation. When using the gel, apply 2-3 drops to the top bar of frames covered with bees, spreading each drop over an area of about 1 cm square (approximately 1 ml). Like any varroa treatment, the application must be repeated. After the initial application, two more applications should be done every 3 days (e.g., Monday, Thursday, Sunday).

The number and size of the drops should be adjusted based on the outside temperature and the size of the hive's ventilation openings. If the temperature is higher, use smaller drops and repeat the application every two days. If the ventilation openings are larger, a greater amount of formic acid gel will be needed.

Before use, replace the transport cap with the dosing cap included in the package.

There are no withdrawal periods for bees, wax, or honey.

Important Warnings

• Do not apply directly to bees and/or honey!
• Shake before use.
• Do not use the product when the daytime outside temperature drops below 15°C!
• The product is an irritant. Contact with skin and eyes may cause burns!

Precautions

• Do not smoke or eat while using the product.
• Avoid contact with the product and wash your hands after use.
• Wear protective gloves and a mask. In case of skin contact, wash with plenty of water.
• Do not inhale the vapors! Inhalation may cause symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, vomiting, and inability to swallow.
• If vapors are inhaled for an extended period, move to an area with fresh air. Seek medical advice if necessary.

• Store in the original packaging at room temperature.
• Protect from direct sunlight.
• Store away from food.
• Keep out of reach of children.
